Having shutters installed on the windows of your home office should be the same as hanging a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on your door handle – it ensures that the outside world is kept at bay. This should ensure you aren’t distracted or bothered by anyone or anything while you work.
If you have particularly sensitive documents or paperwork on your desk, you may want to consider full-length or solid shutters – although this may obviously limit the amount of heat and light which you can enjoy.

However, in your domestic working environment you will probably want to regulate the heat and light just as you would in the rest of your home. In this case, you would be better off fitting plantation shutters with louvres or panels, and to opt for a variety which doesn’t necessarily cover the whole window – such as café-style, or tier-on-tier shutters.
These can be adjusted according to your needs – so if it’s hot, you may want to keep the shutters closed, but the louvres at least partially open. This way, comparatively little hot sun gets into your working environment, which will help avoid any glare on your computer screen. However, there will still be a steady airflow, so your home office won’t be too unhealthy and stuffy.
And in winter, you can keep the shutters closed, to keep the cold air out and any warm air in.
Saving on Energy Bills
Another reason to have shutters installed is to control the amount you are spending on heating up your home – remember, you may now be paying to heat up (and, in winter, light up) your home during the work day, when previously these costs were borne by your employer.
One of the main reasons people need to heat up their homes is because so much heat is lost through windows and doors. A report commissioned by Historic England, showed that well-fitting shutters can reduce heat loss through windows by as much as 58% - a far better figure than what can be achieved by curtains and other window coverings.
