Many people's New Year resolutions relate to home improvements. The New Year offers the chance to refresh your home or office, but what interior design trends are likely to be popular in 2026?

Earthy Colours are In

Neutral colours such as grey and off-whites are out; there will be plenty of warmer colours instead. Terracotta, caramel, honey and pale oak will all be expected to form part of the colour palette of 2026.

This is reflected by the choices of those companies which have already announced their Colour of the Year for the next 12 months. Shades of hazelnut, walnut, coffee and damson are being tipped to feature strongly on walls, doors, and in some cases on furniture.

Statement Lighting (and Mirrors) in 2026

Ordinary lampshades and light fittings will be replaced by much more striking alternatives. This is particularly true in dining rooms, where bold pendant lighting or grouped fittings will transform the eating experience.

The same applies to mirrors. These won't be confined to the bedroom; in 2026 you can expect to see many more of these above sideboards and fireplaces. Not only will they bring their own visual interest and perspectives, but they can also make smaller rooms seem much larger.

Smart Thinking

Smart thermostats are likely to be popular in 2026, as homeowners look to minimise their energy bills. Security devices such as cameras and video doorbells are also likely to feature strongly, while smart lighting has become a common addition to both new-builds and older properties.

Wood to the Fore…

As part of the drive towards renewability and the environment, real wood is expected to feature strongly in interior designers’ choices in 2026. Whether you are talking about cupboards, wall panels or even ceilings, using either natural oak, ash or walnut will balance sustainability with style.

...and Shutters too

Another way of ensuring natural wood features strongly in your home is to have natural wooden shutters installed. Not only are these from a renewable resource, but they have plenty of other practical benefits as well. They will keep the cold air out in winter, and keep your rooms cool in summer.

At The Bespoke Shutter Company, we can supply and install many different kinds of wooden plantation shutters to homes in London, Hertfordshire and Essex. These include café-style, tier-on-tier, solid and full-length shutters. Don't worry if any of your windows are an unusual shape, as all our products are made to measure shutters – whether you live in Essex, Hertfordshire or London - and we haven’t yet found a window we can’t fit one to.

And you can also customise them so that they match the ‘on-trend’ colours of 2026. For a full list of the colours and stains we have available, follow this link.

FAQS:

Q: Can shutters be used anywhere apart from on a window?

A: Yes, shutters can also be fitted to a French door (or window) or patio sliding doors. If the window or door opens inwards, they can always be mounted on the outside. They can also be used effectively as room dividers fitted on tracks.

Q: How long does it take from the order being placed for the shutters to be installed?

A: Our shutters are ready for installation in six to eight weeks from the date of the order and receipt of the deposit. They come with a three-year warranty to guard against warping and any workmanship defects.

Q: How do you calculate your prices?

A: Prices for all our shutters are based on a square metre price. For a quick estimate, please call us or email info@bespokeshutters.com (providing the height and width of the openings in millimetres). Alternatively, we can organise for one of our staff to visit, take precise measurements, and confirm your requirements before sending a written quotation.
